A Tencent Cloud executive stated at the World Artificial Intelligence Conference that in order to
minimize inference costs, the company will massively deploy domestically-produced computing power and expects to deploy NPO (Near-Packaged Optics) supernodes in the fourth quarter of 2026, while also calling for unified NPO industry standards both domestically and internationally. Tencent Cloud Vice President Wang Yachen pointed out that NPO is currently a more practical technical route for building supernodes with domestic GPUs. Shen Yichen, founder of Xizhi Technology, predicted that the commercialization of NPO solutions is imminent, characterized by placing the optoelectronic conversion chip directly on the same board as the computing chip, thereby eliminating the most expensive DSP chip in the optical module.
