Today AI Intelligence Brief
Tesla's AI5 generation chip adopts a dual-source supply strategy. The TSMC version is based on the
3nm node, with design partner Global Unichip Corporation (GUC), and its tape-out progress is one quarter ahead of the Samsung foundry version. The Samsung foundry AI5, on the other hand, is based on the 2nm GAA process and has completed tape-out, but its manufacturing cost is higher. Due to differences in transistor architecture (FinFET vs GAA), the two versions have considerable differences at the physical implementation level of chip design.
